TURTLES IN A HALF SHELL!!

TURTLE POWER!!

My friend Jackie was there when I made Wendy's teddy bear cake and when she saw what I could do she asked me to make her birthday cake.

Her favorite Ninja Turtle Rapheal was the theme for this one.

I made it while I was house/dog sitting at Lynda and Dave's. Crosby (the dog) enjoyed some of the leftover cake as when I had my back turned for two seconds smoothing out the fondant, he was on his hind legs and eating it pretty much right out of the pan on the counter. He didn't get much before I stopped him.

I'm getting ahead of myself! Let's start this one from the begining.

Armed with all my ingredients and decorating tools I set out to make this cake. It's so hard to do anything in someone else's kitchen though. I always have a hard time doing it. However, Lynda and Dave had a fantastic island (they have an even more fantastic one now since the kitchen remodel) to roll fondant on.

I baked two round cakes, blew up my patern on the computer and printed it out. Placed the patern on the cakes once they were cooled and layered and went about cut out the Ninja Turtle shape. I then thought to myself, how am I going to make the nose? I was looking around for an idea, when it came to me, the extra cake (before Crosby got to it)! It worked perfectly and I began to roll the fondant. The colour was a little brighter than I wanted but I worked away anyways. After applying the fondant and smoothing it out I realized that it looked a lot better than I could have hoped and the nose really did work. Now it was on to the outlining and details. This was the hardest part. Those of you that know me well know that I cannot draw a straight line with a ruler, but it turned out.

Jackie was so happy when I got to her party and everyone seemed to be really impressed.

This is my favorite cake to date. I am so proud of it.
